The flood situation in Assam continued to remain critical on July 1, with more than 46,000 people affected across six districts and over 3,809 hectares of crop land inundated, according to the latest flood bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
The authority reported that 46,938 people have been impacted in 10 revenue circles covering 221 villages in the districts of Dhemaji, Nalbari, Dibrugarh, Chirang, Lakhimpur and Biswanath.
Among the affected districts, Dhemaji remains the worst-hit, with 45,841 people affected by the rising floodwaters.
ASDMA also confirmed the first flood-related fatality of the current season. A woman lost her life after drowning in floodwaters at Sissiborgaon in Dhemaji district.
According to the bulletin, the Brahmaputra and Disang rivers are flowing above the danger level, while flooding has caused damage to roads and other public infrastructure in several parts of the state.
Relief measures are continuing in the affected areas. More than 450 displaced people have been accommodated in four relief camps, while six relief distribution centres have been established to provide essential assistance to flood-affected residents.
The floods have also affected livestock, with over 88,000 animals reported to have been impacted across the state.
Authorities said relief and rehabilitation operations are continuing as water levels remain high in the flood-hit districts.
