Guwahati: In a crucial breakthrough in the investigation into the mysterious death of Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg, seven Assamese expatriates from Singapore have arrived in Guwahati to record their statements before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police.
Those who appeared include Rupkamal Kalita, Abhimanyu Talukdar, Tanmoy Phukan, Jalongsat Narjari, Parikshit Sharma, Siddharth Bora, and Bhaskarjyoti Dutta — all of whom were reportedly present during the yacht party in Singapore where Zubeen tragically drowned on September 19.
According to sources, four more individuals — Devajit Hazarika, Sudip Chatterjee, Sushmita Goswami, and Bazid Ahmed — are expected to reach Guwahati soon to assist the SIT.
The SIT, led by Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta, has been tasked with uncovering the exact sequence of events leading to the artist’s death. The investigation aims to determine whether foul play was involved, amid growing public suspicion and emotional appeals for justice across Assam.
Earlier, the SIT had arrested seven individuals, including festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sharma, and band members Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta. Zubeen’s cousin, DSP Sandipan Garg, was also taken into custody for alleged involvement.
The latest round of questioning marks a critical phase in the probe, as the expats’ testimonies could help reconstruct the final hours of Zubeen’s life during the Singapore trip.
Meanwhile, public sentiment continues to surge online, with thousands demanding #JusticeForZubeenGarg — echoing calls for accountability and transparency in what many believe to be a case far from simple accidental drowning.
