Tezpur : The Tezpur University Teachers’ Association (TUTA) has expressed strong concern over the alleged delay in taking a final decision on an inquiry report concerning Tezpur University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, who, according to the association, has remained away from duty since September 24, 2025, while continuing to receive his full salary. In a press release, TUTA said the inquiry report on allegations against Prof. Singh was submitted to the Ministry of Education in May 2026, but no final decision has yet been communicated to the university community. The association demanded an immediate and transparent resolution of the matter. Under Section 91 of the Tezpur University Act, 1993, a high-level inquiry committee was constituted on December 31, 2025, and Prof. Singh was directed to stay away from his responsibilities and remain on compulsory leave until completion of the inquiry. Prof. Amarendra Kumar Das was subsequently appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor and assumed charge on January 7, 2026.

TUTA questioned the legal basis for allowing Prof. Singh to continue drawing full salary despite his prolonged absence. It also sought clarification on how his long-term leave was sanctioned and whether his permissible leave entitlement had already expired. The association further pointed out that the inquiry report was submitted in May, raising questions about Prof. Singh’s present formal status since the December order had stated that his leave would continue only until completion of the inquiry. TUTA has called for the inquiry report and the authorities’ decision to be made public. It also sought transparent examination of issues including the delayed convocation, CAS promotion interviews, appointments to key administrative posts, procurement of furniture and books, and alleged financial and administrative irregularities. The teachers’ body warned that continued silence could deepen uncertainty within the university and fuel apprehensions that the matter may remain unresolved until the end of the Vice-Chancellor’s tenure.
