NEW DELHI: Meghalaya showcased its filmmakers, artists and digital content creators at Film Expo India in New Delhi, seeking to position the state as more than a location for scenic film shoots.
The state’s ‘Hello Meghalaya’ initiative was showcased at the expo at Bharat Mandapam, attracting around 300 visitors on its opening day, according to the state government. Filmmakers, actors and creative professionals, as well as representatives from technology and artificial intelligence sectors, visited the pavilion and expressed interest in collaborations with talent from Meghalaya.
Actor Vindu Dara Singh said filmmakers would soon consider the state for productions, while Pushpa associate director Nixon D’Cruz also expressed interest in exploring creative opportunities and local talent.
At the centre of Meghalaya’s pitch was Hello Meghalaya, a state-backed OTT platform providing an outlet for regional films, music and other locally produced content. Creators can upload content and earn revenue based on viewership.
The state is also seeking to attract larger productions through its Meghalaya Film Tourism Policy 2025, which provides single-window clearances through the Invest Meghalaya portal and production incentives of up to Rs 1 crore or 25 per cent of eligible production costs. Additional support is available for productions using local talent and music or premiering content on Hello Meghalaya.
The policy was used for the feature film Baa Baa Black Sheep, which was shot entirely in Meghalaya over 25 days and provided employment to nearly 2,000 local youths, according to the state government.
The Meghalaya pavilion also showcased indigenous textiles and traditional attire from the state and the wider Northeast as part of its broader creative-sector promotion.
