Assam Police, Assam Rifles Seize 30,000 Drug Tablets Worth Rs 1 Crore in Cachar

SILCHAR, Oct 10: Assam Police and Assam Rifles arrested two men and seized 30,000 drug tablets valued at around Rs 1 crore in the international black market during a joint operation in Cachar district.

The team recovered the tablets from an autorickshaw at Chiripool under Lakhipur Police Station. Acting on a tip-off, personnel led by Lakhipur police station officer-in-charge Shankar Dayal established a checkpoint and intercepted the vehicle during routine checks.

A search revealed 125 packets of tablets concealed in two cartons inside the autorickshaw.

Police identified the arrested men as Vishal Das, 24, a resident of Cremation Ground Road in Lakhipur town, and Arjun Das, who hails from Chiripool.

Investigators are probing the source of the consignment and its intended destination, while also examining whether others were involved in the alleged drug trafficking network.

Police registered a case at Lakhipur Police Station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway.
