SILCHAR, Oct 11: A young man was detained in Silchar after allegedly hiding for nearly two hours in water beneath the parking area of Adhi TVS Showroom at Kathal Point while attempting to evade local residents and police following a theft allegation.
According to local sources, several theft incidents had reportedly occurred in the area over the previous two to three days. Residents became alert after CCTV cameras allegedly captured footage of a theft and launched a search for the suspected individual.
The search began around midnight on October 10. The youth allegedly took refuge in the water accumulated beneath the showroom’s parking area in an attempt to avoid being caught.
After searching for an extended period, residents informed the police. With police assistance, the youth was detained at around 2 am and subsequently taken into custody.
However, his alleged involvement in the recent theft incidents remained unconfirmed. Police were investigating the matter, while CCTV footage and other evidence were expected to help establish the facts.
The allegations against the youth have not yet been independently verified.
