Guwahati: Gauhati University proudly celebrates yet another milestone in academic excellence as Dr. Ranjit Thakuria, Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry, has been featured in the Royal Society of Chemistry’s (RSC) prestigious journal Chemical Communications (ChemComm) under the “Pioneering Investigators Collection 2025: Part 2.” The global collection highlights 31 scientists worldwide for their groundbreaking contributions to chemical sciences, with Dr. Thakuria being one of only two researchers from India selected this year.
His featured research, “Synthesis and Characterization of Urea•2,4-Dihydroxybenzoic Acid Cocrystal as a Sustained-Release Fertilizer,” was chosen for the Inside Back Cover of the issue. The work explores innovative approaches to sustainable agriculture through advanced crystal engineering, offering new solutions for green nutrient management.

Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University, hailed the achievement as “a matter of immense pride for Assam and the University, reflecting our growing global research presence.” Dr. Thakuria expressed gratitude, saying the recognition inspires his team to continue pursuing impactful research that addresses real-world challenges.
Dr. Thakuria earned his Ph.D. from the University of Hyderabad, followed by postdoctoral stints at Cambridge University, UK, and Tel Aviv University, Israel. Since joining Gauhati University in 2014, he has received multiple national and international awards, including the DST–Young Scientist Award and ACS Crystal Growth & Design Emerging Investigators Award. Currently a Ulam Nawa Fellow at the University of Warsaw, Poland, he continues to advance research in crystal engineering, supramolecular design, and mechanochemistry.
With this global recognition, Dr. Thakuria not only strengthens Gauhati University’s legacy of scientific innovation but also inspires future researchers in Assam and across India.
