The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has stepped up its action against alleged anti-national activities by initiating proclamation proceedings against absconding accused Sadiq Ali, also known as Sadiq Shaikh, a resident of Dhubri district in Assam. The move indicates that authorities are preparing to attach his properties if he fails to surrender within the stipulated timeframe.
Officials said a joint team of the ATS and the Uttar Pradesh Police, with support from local police, conducted a targeted search operation at Takimari village in Dhubri. The operation was carried out at the residence of Sadiq Ali, son of Muktal Mandal, who has been on the run since 2022 despite sustained efforts by investigating agencies.
Following the search, proclamation proceedings under Section 82 of the Code of Criminal Procedure were executed. Notices were affixed at the accused’s residence and other prominent locations in the village, while a public announcement was made to formally notify residents about the legal action initiated against him.
The case relates to Case Crime No. 04/2022 registered at the ATS Police Station in Lucknow, in which Sadiq Ali is accused of involvement in activities considered prejudicial to the security of the state and the nation. Officials noted that despite continuous efforts by the ATS and the National Investigation Agency, the accused has remained untraceable.
As per court directions, Sadiq Ali has been ordered to surrender before the ATS or NIA court, or the investigating agency, on or before January 13, 2026. Authorities said failure to comply will lead to proceedings under Section 83 of the CrPC, paving the way for attachment and confiscation of his movable and immovable properties. Security agencies have urged the public to share any information that could help trace the fugitive, as efforts to apprehend him continue.
