Manipur Director General of Police Mukesh Singh on Tuesday, August 18, urged insurgent groups to give up armed activities and return to the mainstream, assuring support for the lawful process of surrender, verification and rehabilitation.
Speaking at a “Home Coming Ceremony” for cadres of the KCP-Taibanganba Group at the 1st Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal, Singh welcomed the return of 46 cadres to civilian life. The cadres surrendered 20 arms, 216 rounds of ammunition and three explosives.
Singh said the cadres had chosen to return to their families, communities and responsibilities as citizens by giving up armed activities. He urged them to remain committed to the decision, respect the law and stay away from violence, intimidation, extortion and other illegal activities.
“Manipur Police will continue to discharge its constitutional responsibility with determination. At the same time, for individuals who genuinely renounce violence and seek reintegration, we will support the lawful process of surrender, verification and rehabilitation,” he said.
The DGP said the credibility of the homecoming would ultimately depend on the conduct of the surrendered cadres. He also urged them to encourage others to choose the path of peace.
Singh called on families and communities to support the former cadres as they adapted to civilian life. He also appreciated the civil administration, police, security forces and other stakeholders for helping create conditions for the return of former insurgents.
He said the homecoming would strengthen public confidence that peace, lawful reintegration and a return to normal life were possible in Manipur.
