Silchar: Tension gripped Silchar on December 20 as BJP Yuva Morcha activists from Assam’s Cachar district staged a protest over alleged atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh. The protesters assembled at a busy intersection in the town, burning an effigy symbolising the accused and shouting slogans condemning violence against the minority community across the border.
The Yuva Morcha workers demanded that those responsible be tried in an international court and awarded capital punishment. They warned that India “would not tolerate atrocities against Hindus under any circumstances” and threatened continued demonstrations if strong action was not initiated. The protesters expressed confidence that the Prime Minister and the Assam Chief Minister would take a firm diplomatic stand on the issue. They urged the Centre and the state to pursue decisive measures to ensure justice and protection for Hindus in Bangladesh.
