RPF/PLA Cadre Arrested in Imphal West, Arms and Equipment Seized in Separate Manipur Operation

Imphal, Dec 23: Security forces intensified counter-insurgency operations in Manipur on Monday, December 22, with the arrest of an active cadre of the banned Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) in Imphal West district, officials confirmed.

The arrested militant has been identified as Kshetrimayum Nilakanta Singh, also known by the aliases Kanta and Mangal, aged 51. He is a native of Kakching Turel Wangma in Kakching district and was also residing at Langjing Achouba Awang Leikai in Imphal West. He was apprehended from Takyel Kolom Leikai Leirak-6, falling under the jurisdiction of Lamphel Police Station.

During the operation, security personnel recovered two mobile phones and a driving licence from his possession. Officials said the seized items have been taken as evidence, and further investigation is underway to establish his exact role and activities linked to the proscribed outfit.

In another development on the same day, security forces carried out a separate operation in Tengnoupal district, leading to the recovery of arms and communication equipment. The cache was found in the Konaitong and Pelyang hill range areas under Machi Police Station.

The items seized included two improvised mortars and three wireless communication sets, indicating the presence of militant infrastructure in the remote hill areas. Officials said the recovery forms part of sustained efforts to disrupt militant logistics and communication networks.

Authorities reiterated that such coordinated operations are aimed at curbing insurgent activities and restoring peace and stability across the state.
