Guwahati, Dec 27: The ongoing work stoppage and protest by employees of the 108 Mritunjay Ambulance service entered its 27th day on Saturday, with hundreds of staff continuing their sit-in demonstration at Chachal in Guwahati.
On Friday, representatives of the protesting employees met National Health Mission (NHM), Assam Managing Director Dr Lakshmanan S and placed before him allegations of corruption, harassment and mismanagement against GVK EMRI, the agency operating the 108 ambulance service in the state.
While no immediate decision was taken after the meeting, Dr Lakshmanan assured the protesters that the issues raised would be forwarded to the state government for further consideration.
The agitating employees are also demanding the reinstatement of more than 1,000 108 ambulance workers who were allegedly terminated from service in recent months.
Stepping up their agitation, the protesters warned that if the government fails to take a decisive stand within the next two days, nearly 3,000 108 ambulance employees would launch an indefinite hunger strike at the protest site in Chachal.
