Court Sets January 22 for Next Hearing in Zubeen Garg Murder Case as Wife Appeals for Justice

Guwahati, Jan 18: The fourth hearing in the Zubeen Garg murder case was held on Saturday at the court of the District and Sessions Judge, which fixed January 22 as the date for the next hearing in the matter.

Following the court proceedings, Garima Saikia Garg, wife of the late Zubeen Garg, once again appealed for justice, expressing deep anguish over the slow pace of the legal process. In an emotional post shared on social media, she reflected on the developments in court and the pain endured by the family over the past four months since Zubeen Garg’s death.

Garima stated that she and her sister-in-law were present during the hearing and noted that a newly appointed Public Prosecutor team, led by Ziaul Kamar, appeared in court for the first time and formally took charge of the case. She expressed cautious optimism, saying that the presence of experienced lawyers strengthened her belief that the legal battle for justice would now move forward with greater resolve.

At the same time, she raised serious concerns over multiple bail applications filed by the accused. She pointed out that apart from earlier bail pleas submitted by Amritprabha Mahanta, Sandipan Garg and Paresh Baishya, two more accused — Nandeswar Bora and Shyamkanu Mahanta — have now approached the court seeking bail, taking the total number of bail applicants to five.

Describing the situation as alarming, Garima asserted that the accused were making every possible attempt to secure relief and urged the court, the government and all concerned authorities to act firmly. She appealed that none of the main accused should be granted bail until the completion of the trial, stressing that the case demands strict and decisive action.

In her post, Garima wrote that justice for Zubeen Garg was not only a matter for the family but for the entire state of Assam. She added that a just verdict would stand as a victory for every citizen and a significant test of the state’s commitment to justice.
