Guwahati: The 15th East Himalayan Trade Fair (EHTF), along with the 2nd East Himalayan Agri Expo (EHAE), was inaugurated on Thursday at the Assam Engineering Institute Playground in Chandmari, marking the beginning of a week-long showcase of trade, agriculture and culture. Organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the fair will remain open to the public till January 28 from 12 noon to 8 pm daily. The event was inaugurated by J. B. Ekka, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary of the Industry and Commerce Department, Government of Assam, in the presence of ITPO Executive Director Premjit Lal and Lt Col Harsh Kondilya, OSD and General Manager of ITPO’s Fair Division.

Participants from several Indian states, including Haryana, as well as government organisations and private enterprises, are showcasing traditional crafts, regional products and cultural heritage. The Food Corporation of India is exhibiting diverse rice varieties from across the country, while the Coconut Development Board is displaying coconut-based products highlighting agri-value addition. Adding an international flavour, exhibitors from Thailand and Afghanistan are presenting consumer goods and dry fruits, respectively. The Assam government has facilitated participation of MSMEs and women entrepreneurs from the Northeast, supported by the Ministry of MSME. Cultural programmes, a multi-cuisine food court and family-oriented activities are also attracting visitors.
