Tezpur University faculty Elected Fellow of INSA

Tezpur: Prof. Satya Sundar Bhattacharya of Tezpur University’s Department of Environmental Science has been elected a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA). The honour, regarded as one of the highest recognitions in Indian science, acknowledges his pioneering contributions to soil health, waste recycling, nano-fertilizer development, earthworm biology, and sustainable agriculture.

       Founded in 1935, INSA is the country’s premier scientific body, with election to its fellowship reserved for scientists of exceptional merit. Prof. Bhattacharya’s selection places him among a distinguished group of researchers who have made transformative impacts across disciplines.

         At Tezpur University, Prof. Bhattacharya leads the Soil and Agro-Bioengineering Laboratory, which focuses on plant medicinal compounds under changing environmental conditions, solid waste valorisation, vermicomposting, soil restoration, and nano-enabled solutions for agriculture. His research has produced over 100 publications, including 89 in reputed journals, and an Indian patent on a novel soil conditioner (2020), now transferred for industrial use. His work is widely cited, with an h-index of 38 (Google Scholar).

      Prof. Bhattacharya’s contributions have been recognised nationally and internationally. He was awarded the Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award in 2018, elected Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (FNASc) in 2024, and served as Research Professor at Hanyang University, Seoul. He also collaborates actively with Orebro University, Sweden, strengthening international research ties.
