Mumbai: Anil Agarwal has strongly advocated for Bihar to have its own powerful franchise in the Indian Premier League, saying the state possesses immense cricketing talent and deserves recognition alongside leading teams such as Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. In a detailed post shared on X, Agarwal expressed concern that Bihar, despite producing several talented cricketers over the years, still lacks a strong cricketing identity at the national level. He questioned why the state has not yet received the recognition it deserves in Indian cricket. Agarwal highlighted the achievements of prominent players from Bihar, including Ishan Kishan, who was born in Patna and holds the record for the fastest ODI double century in terms of balls faced. He also praised young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi from Samastipur, who recently became one of the youngest players to make an IPL debut.

The industrialist further mentioned emerging fast bowler Saqib Hussain from Gopalganj, saying his performances have attracted attention from the cricketing world and demonstrated the untapped potential present in the state. According to Agarwal, Bihar’s rich cricketing talent deserves a dedicated platform that can inspire young players and help strengthen the sport in the region. He said it has long been his dream to ensure that aspiring athletes from Bihar receive proper infrastructure, coaching facilities and professional opportunities within the state itself instead of being forced to move elsewhere for development.
He stressed that improved sports infrastructure and institutional support could transform Bihar into a major cricketing hub in the future. Agarwal also suggested that a strong IPL franchise representing Bihar could encourage greater investment in sports facilities and create opportunities for local youth. His remarks have sparked discussions among cricket fans and sports enthusiasts, many of whom believe Bihar has the talent and passion required to support a successful IPL team.
