Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has invited groups opposing the proposed Siang Multipurpose Project for another round of discussions, reiterating that the state government remains committed to engaging with local communities and addressing their concerns.
Mein said his position was aligned with that of Chief Minister Pema Khandu and that the government would maintain a united stand on the issue.
“There is no difference of opinion on this issue from my side. I stand with the people of Arunachal Pradesh,” he said.
Clarifying the government’s position, Mein stressed that both leaders had referred to the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR), rather than announced any decision to construct a dam. He challenged claims that he or the Chief Minister had spoken about building one, asking people to check their previous statements.
He said discussions with affected communities had remained central to the government’s approach. Mein had earlier invited community leaders to Itanagar for talks and later held another round of discussions with members of the Adi-Galo Welfare Society at his residence.
Reiterating his willingness to engage with those opposing the project, he said the government remained open to further dialogue with all concerned groups.
