Three Arrested, Heroin and Brown Sugar Seized in Manipur

Manipur Police arrested two persons in Senapati district after recovering 590 grams of suspected brown sugar, while a separate operation in Imphal West led to the seizure of 356 grams of suspected heroin concealed inside a car’s gearbox.

In the Senapati operation, a joint team of Senapati Police and the CRPF arrested Md Yunus Khan, 40, a resident of Thoubal district, during frisking and vehicle checks at T Khullen Naka Check Post on November 7. Police also seized a Bolero vehicle from his possession along with the suspected contraband.

Further investigation allegedly linked another person, Raveilou Zhoh, 31, of Senapati, to the transportation of the substance. Police arrested him near Mini Stadium Ground in Senapati.

In the second operation, a team from the Special CDO Unit of Manipur Police recovered 356 grams of suspected heroin powder from a Hyundai i20 at Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai along National Highway 102 in Imphal West on November 7.

Police said the action followed an attempt by the car’s driver to evade a checking team near Iland Hospital. The driver allegedly ignored a signal to stop and accelerated towards Canchipur. Personnel pursued the vehicle, but the driver abandoned it and escaped on foot.

The police subsequently searched the car in the presence of the SDPO, Singjamei, and found the suspected heroin concealed inside its gearbox. Preliminary chemical tests by the Mobile Forensic Unit indicated the presence of heroin in the seized substance.

The vehicle and contraband were handed over to Singjamei Police Station for further legal action. Investigations into both cases are continuing.
