Meghalaya Governor Announces Rs 2 Lakh Annual Aid for Scouts and Guides

Meghalaya Governor C.H. Vijayashankar announced annual financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh from the Governor’s Office to the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides to support its activities and youth development initiatives across the state.

He made the announcement on November 7 at the organisation’s Foundation Day celebrations and Rajya Puraskar Rally 2026 at Lok Bhavan in Shillong.

Vijayashankar, who serves as the organisation’s Chief Patron, said the assistance would help sustain its programmes and strengthen its work. He stressed that institutions involved in youth development needed adequate financial support to continue their activities.

Emphasising the contribution of the Scouts and Guides movement, the Governor said it helped young people develop discipline, leadership, self-reliance and a spirit of service, while promoting responsible citizenship and national integration.

He praised the organisation’s initiatives across Meghalaya, including the National Level Tribal Meet held in Shillong in 2026, which brought young people together for interaction and cultural understanding. He also congratulated the Guide Unit of KJP Girls Higher Secondary School on its recognition as a Historical Unit of the Bharat Scouts and Guides during the organisation’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

At the event, the Governor released BSG flag stickers and presented Rajya Puraskar certificates to 241 recipients, comprising 77 Scouts, three Rovers and 161 Guides.

Congratulating the awardees, he urged them to uphold the movement’s values and motto and contribute to building a peaceful, united and developed Meghalaya and India.
