Guwahati, June 30: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday, June 30, paid homage to Kargil War hero Captain Jintu Gogoi on his martyrdom day, recalling his extraordinary courage and supreme sacrifice during the 1999 conflict.
In a post shared on X, the Chief Minister said the decorated Army officer’s selfless service and sacrifice remain a powerful example of courage, patriotism and dedication to the nation.
“Humble tributes to Shaheed Captain Jintu Gogoi (Vir Chakra) on his Martyrdom Day. His unwavering devotion to Maa Bharti and his supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War embody the highest ideals of courage, duty and patriotism. His legacy will continue to inspire generations,” Sarma wrote.
Captain Jintu Gogoi, who hailed from Assam’s Golaghat district, was posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra for his exceptional bravery during Operation Vijay. He laid down his life on the intervening night of June 29 and 30, 1999, while leading his troops in an operation to recapture Ridge Line Kala Pathar in the Batalik sub-sector from enemy forces.
The 29-year-old officer reportedly killed two enemy soldiers before making the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, leaving behind a legacy of valour that continues to inspire generations.
