HARIDWAR, Oct 10: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday dismissed the Opposition’s protest in Delhi as an expression of frustration, saying the demonstrations would not distract the government from its public welfare agenda.
Speaking in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, Sarma said the government would continue its work regardless of Opposition protests.
“When the Opposition is frustrated, they stage such spectacles. It makes no difference. Keep working for the people, and the people will continue to bless you,” he said.
His remarks came amid an Opposition demonstration in the national capital against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Opposition MPs had gathered at Moets in central Delhi on Thursday for a lunch meeting hosted by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge before heading to Raj Ghat in the late afternoon. Thousands accompanied the leaders, who staged a sit-in for about an hour before deciding to leave the site.
Delhi Traffic Police imposed extensive restrictions around the protest area, including curbs on trucks and other large commercial and passenger vehicles. The restrictions also affected Delhi Transport Corporation buses, a key mode of transport for commuters across the National Capital Region.
