Assam eviction drive resumes in Jamuna-Maudanga forest, 152 families targeted

The eviction drive in Assam’s Jamuna-Maudanga Reserved Forest resumed on Saturday, with the administration targeting 152 families and seeking to reclaim around 525 bighas of allegedly encroached land in the Doboka area.

Around 12 bulldozers were deployed for the operation after officials used loudspeakers on Friday to direct the affected families to vacate their homes. Some residents reportedly began moving out overnight following the announcement.

The latest operation follows an eviction drive in January, when the administration cleared 1,098 families from the reserved forest and reclaimed around 700 hectares of land. However, 152 families secured temporary relief from eviction after approaching the court, allowing them to remain in the area while their cases were under consideration.

With the court-protected families now being targeted in the resumed operation, the district administration and Forest Department are seeking to clear the remaining encroachments and reclaim the land identified for eviction.
