Two Bangladesh police personnel handed over to BGB after crossing into Tripura

Two Bangladesh police personnel who allegedly crossed into Tripura while pursuing suspected smugglers were handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on October 17, police said.

Tripura Police spokesperson Rajdeep Deb identified the personnel as Assistant Sub-Inspector Imran Hussain and Constable Rohit Dewan, both posted at Brahmanpara police station in Bangladesh’s Cumilla district.

According to Deb, the two entered Ashabari, a border village under Kalamchoura police station in Sepahijala district, while chasing suspected smugglers. Local residents apprehended them before handing them over to the Border Security Force (BSF).

“They were later handed over to the Bangladesh authorities during a flag meeting between the BSF and BGB at Border Fencing Gate No. 49 under Rahimpur Border Outpost,” Deb said.

The handover was completed peacefully, the spokesperson added, stating that the situation in the area remained normal and surveillance was continuing.
