Assam Government Working to Address Guwahati Floods: Rameswar Teli

Assam Minister Rameswar Teli on Sunday said recurring flooding in Guwahati is primarily caused by heavy rainfall and the inflow of water from neighbouring Meghalaya, adding that the state government is working to improve drainage and tackle the problem.

Responding to queries on the city’s flood situation, Teli said excessive rainfall, coupled with runoff from Meghalaya, has led to widespread waterlogging in Guwahati.

“The floods in Guwahati are caused by excessive rainfall. So much rain, and water also comes from nearby states like Meghalaya, causing problems. Our government is working to address this. We want the blocked water to drain, and all the people in our GMC are working to do so,” he said.

When asked about the alleged embezzlement of donations at a Ram Mandir, the minister declined to comment in detail, stating that the matter is already under investigation.

“The thefts that took place there was a major incident. Whatever happened, it was shown on CCTV, and the administration has made arrangements. So, I don’t want to elaborate on this,” Teli said.

His remarks came amid fresh concerns over urban flooding in Guwahati following heavy monsoon showers and an ongoing police investigation into the alleged theft of donation funds from a Ram Mandir in the city.
