The legacy of Assam’s legendary singer Zubeen Garg was showcased on an international platform after a young man from the state honoured the late artiste during the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
Musibur Rahman, a resident of Cholcholi in Puranigudam of Assam’s Nagaon district, attended the tournament carrying a traditional Assamese gamosa featuring Zubeen Garg’s image while also wearing a T-shirt bearing the celebrated singer’s portrait.
Widely regarded as one of Assam’s most influential musicians, Zubeen Garg was also known for his enduring passion for football. During his lifetime, he regularly travelled overseas to witness FIFA World Cup matches, combining his love for music with his enthusiasm for the sport.
In remembrance of the late artiste, Rahman chose to celebrate Zubeen Garg’s legacy at one of football’s biggest international events. By displaying the Assamese gamosa and the singer’s image at the FIFA Club World Cup, he also sought to highlight Assam’s cultural identity before a global audience.
The gesture has drawn appreciation from many for carrying the memory of the iconic singer beyond India’s borders while showcasing Assam’s rich cultural heritage on the world stage.
