Sonitpur, June 28: The inauguration ceremony of “Bishnu Jyoti Path” was successfully held at Monujuli village under Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district on June 28, marking a key local development initiative aimed at improving rural connectivity and promoting environmental awareness.
The event began with the symbolic plantation of a Radha Chura (Royal Poinciana) sapling along the roadside by Sanjoy Baruah, President of the environmental organisation Seuj Society, highlighting the importance of ecological conservation and a greener future.
The formal inauguration of the road was carried out through a traditional ground-breaking ceremony by former Forest Officer and nature enthusiast Prafulla Chandra Das and retired Sub-Divisional Veterinary Officer Dr. Umesh Chandra Das, with active participation from local residents.
Addressing the gathering, speakers said Bishnu Jyoti Path would improve transportation facilities and contribute significantly to the overall development of the village while also encouraging environmental awareness.
Local residents welcomed the initiative but stressed the urgent need for blacktopping of the road. Social workers and community representatives said a paved road would greatly improve connectivity and boost socio-economic development in Monujuli village.
They also urged the government to improve drainage systems alongside road construction, noting that poor drainage often leads to waterlogging during the monsoon, which could damage the newly developed road if not addressed in time.
Residents appealed to the concerned authorities to ensure proper drainage planning along with paving work to guarantee long-term durability of the infrastructure.
