Agartala, June 5: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on June 5 said the Centre will not tolerate demographic changes in border states such as West Bengal, Tripura and Bihar, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening border security through advanced technology and enhanced surveillance systems.
Addressing Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at the Lankamura Border Outpost in Tripura, Shah stated that the government is taking all necessary steps to address vulnerabilities along India’s international borders and prevent illegal infiltration.
“Demographic changes in West Bengal, Tripura and Bihar will not be tolerated. The Centre is making all efforts to bridge the gaps in guarding international borders,” he said.
Shah also announced that the government’s ‘smart border’ initiative has reached its final stage and will soon be rolled out on a pilot basis at select locations across the country. He said the project aims to integrate advanced technology, local administrative coordination and border security forces to create a more effective and responsive security framework in sensitive frontier areas.
“The concept of smart border will be implemented in seven to eight places of the country as a pilot project,” the Home Minister added.
His remarks come amid ongoing concerns over illegal infiltration, cross-border crime and security challenges in border regions, particularly in states sharing international boundaries.
During his visit to Tripura, Shah interacted with BSF personnel deployed along the India-Bangladesh border and reviewed security arrangements, while appreciating their role in safeguarding the country’s frontiers.
The Centre has been focusing on modernising border management through advanced surveillance systems, smart fencing and improved inter-agency coordination to strengthen national security and curb illegal cross-border movement.
