Eviction Drive Launched to Reclaim Encroached Land of Chandardinga Pagla Baba Temple in Bilasipara

An eviction drive has been initiated to reclaim allegedly encroached land belonging to the historic Chandardinga Pagla Baba Temple in Bilasipara following the intervention of local MLA Jibesh Roy.

The MLA visited the temple premises on Friday after reports of illegal encroachment emerged. Accompanied by police personnel and officials from the local administration, Roy inspected the site and assessed the extent of the alleged encroachments.

During the inspection, he directed the concerned authorities to prepare a detailed report on the matter and ordered the recovery of the encroached temple land within a two-day deadline. Advocate Shahnawaz Hussain also accompanied him during the visit.

To prevent future encroachments and improve the management of temple assets, Roy announced that properties such as ghats, shops and tempo stands would be managed through a transparent public tender system. He also stated that the official boundaries of the temple land would be permanently marked with boundary pillars.

Following these instructions, the administration launched an eviction drive to remove the alleged illegal structures from the temple premises.

Speaking to the media, Roy emphasised the need to safeguard historical and religious sites from encroachment. He said it is the collective responsibility of society to protect places of cultural and religious importance, adding that strict action would continue against illegal occupation of such properties.

The move has been welcomed by local residents, who believe the reclamation of the land will help preserve the sanctity and heritage of the historic temple.
