Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on June 21 took part in a special International Yoga Day programme held along the banks of the Brahmaputra River, where he was joined by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Describing yoga as India’s gift to the world, the Chief Minister said the ancient discipline encourages a healthy and balanced way of life. He remarked that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, yoga has grown into a worldwide movement practised and celebrated by millions of people.
The event was attended by Assam ministers Ashok Singhal and Ajanta Neog, along with several dignitaries and participants who joined the collective yoga session.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarma stressed the importance of making yoga a part of everyday life, noting its role in promoting physical fitness, mental well-being and overall health.
The programme was organised as part of the nationwide observance of International Yoga Day 2026, with similar events being held across the country to encourage healthy lifestyles and raise awareness about holistic wellness.
