Mizoram Documentary by Assam Filmmaker Rajdeep Choudhury Set for World Premiere at Raindance Film Festival

Aizawl, May 21: A documentary on Mizoram by Assam-born filmmaker Rajdeep Choudhury has been selected for its world premiere at the prestigious Raindance Film Festival, adding another international achievement to the expanding Chalo India with Eric Ji anthology series.

Titled Chalo India with Eric Ji: Mizoram, the documentary will debut at the London-based festival, recognised globally as one of the major platforms for independent cinema and as a qualifying event for Oscar, BAFTA and BIFA consideration.

The film forms part of a broader anthology project designed to present India’s diverse states, cultures and lesser-known stories through individual documentaries. The series is fronted by Eric Ollerenshaw, whose travel-based presentation style has become a defining element of the project.

The Mizoram edition focuses on the state’s landscapes, cultural traditions, music and people, while also presenting the wider cultural identity of Northeast India.

The anthology earlier gained recognition through Chalo India with Eric Ji: Varanasi, which was screened at the International Film Festival of India in Goa earlier this year. The film received attention for presenting a contemporary perspective on Varanasi by highlighting its food, festivals, music and everyday life rather than adopting a traditional tourism format.

According to the creators, the concept behind the series took shape after Choudhury encountered promotional material related to the Government of India’s “Chalo India” campaign launched in London in 2024.

The teaser of the Mizoram documentary was also unveiled during celebrations marking 60 years of the India Tourism Development Corporation and 70 years of The Ashok in New Delhi, where members of the production team were honoured by Union ministers and senior officials.

Choudhury, who has been based in London for more than 17 years, said the larger ambition of the project is to eventually create documentaries covering all 28 states of India through independent productions.
