Sribhumi, May 27: A section of the Muslim community in Sribhumi has decided not to use cows for sacrifice during Eid this year, choosing instead to sacrifice goats while following existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and promoting communal harmony in the area.
Residents of the Settlement Road locality in Sribhumi said the decision was taken keeping in mind the longstanding tradition of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among different communities in the area.
Speaking on the matter, Abdul Hakim Choudhury, a resident of Settlement Road, said the community had always placed importance on maintaining brotherhood and harmony among people belonging to different faiths. He stated that, in line with this spirit, families in the locality had collectively decided to opt for goat sacrifice during this year’s Eid celebrations.
Choudhury also said that religious leaders within the community had been encouraging people for a long time to consider goat sacrifice instead of cows. According to him, residents now intend to continue following this practice in future years as well.
He further noted that goat production in the Barak Valley region remains limited, resulting in animals being brought from Lanka to meet the increased demand ahead of Eid.
Community members stated that each individual would sacrifice one goat and distribute the meat among poor and underprivileged families as part of the religious observance.
