Nagaon: Returning Officer and District Election Officer, Nagaon, Aranyak Saikia today officially issued the notification for the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election. With this, the process for filing of nominations has started from today. Additional Commissioner Pallavi Gogoi has been appointed as Assistant Returning Officer for receiving nomination papers. Candidates can file their nominations from 11 AM to 3 PM till 16th September. Scrutiny of nominations will be held the next day, and nominations can be withdrawn till 3 PM on September 19, 2026. In a separate order, the District Commissioner has stated that for filing nominations, a maximum of three vehicles will be allowed within a 100-metre radius of the District Commissioner’s office. Only a maximum five persons including the candidate will be allowed to enter the District Election Officer’s office for filing nomination papers. To ensure smooth filing of nominations and for security reasons, entry of private vehicles inside the District Commissioner’s office campus has been banned from 14th to 17th September.

The Nagaon district administration has intensified preparations for the election. As part of this preparation, an important election review meeting was held yesterday evening under the chairmanship of District Commissioner Aranyak Saikia in the conference hall of the DC office. In the meeting, the DC said that the main objective is to make the election process completely transparent, inclusive, peaceful and voter-friendly while maintaining democratic dignity. As per the announcement of the Election Commission, polling will be held on October 6 and counting of votes will be held on October 9 next. All the procedures to be followed as per the election rules were discussed in the meeting. The District Commissioner directed all administrative, police and departmental officers to strictly follow the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming by-election and to ensure all necessary arrangements in advance.
Senior Superintendent of Police V V Rakesh Reddy informed that security arrangements will be tightened in the district to conduct the upcoming by-election peacefully and the police administration is fully prepared to maintain law and order at all levels. He also emphasized on security of polling stations and deployment of additional forces in sensitive areas. The meeting was attended by Raha Co-District Commissioner Dr Ankita Bora, Additional District Commissioners Pallavi Gogoi, Kamal Jit Sharma, Gopal Sharma, Mridul Boro, Dipankar Barman, Additional Superintendent of Police Rouzi Talukdar, Election Officer Pratisha Dutta, Assistant Commissioner Sekharan Phukan and other officers from district administration, police, CRPF, Circle Officers, BDOs and various departments. With the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, a massive drive to remove illegal advertisements and publicity materials has been started from yesterday in five important Assembly segments under Nagaon district. These segments are 55-Dhing, 56-Rupahihat, 58-Samguri, 60-Nagaon-batadroba and 61-Raha [SC]. As part of this drive, banners, posters, hoardings and flags put up by political parties and individuals are being promptly removed by the administration to strictly enforce election laws and guidelines.
