Parsi Parlo Cut Off as Floods Inundate Arunachal Border Town

Relentless monsoon rains have submerged the remote border town of Parsi Parlo in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kurung Kumey district, with the Kumey River flowing above the danger level and severing the only road link to the district headquarters at Koloriang.

Continuous heavy rainfall over the past several days triggered extensive flooding across the district, inundating large parts of Parsi Parlo near the Indo-China border and causing widespread damage to infrastructure.

Officials said the swollen Kumey River overflowed its banks, flooding government buildings, including the Inspection Bungalow and schools, besides several private houses. Roads across multiple colonies and villages were submerged, leaving them resembling flowing rivers.

The heavy rain also triggered landslides and severe soil erosion, damaging road infrastructure across the district. Several valley bridges were washed away, further disrupting connectivity.

Authorities confirmed that the only road connecting Parsi Parlo with Koloriang has been temporarily blocked, hampering the movement of residents, emergency services and essential supplies.

Officials have advised people to remain alert as heavy rainfall continues in the region. They said the situation is being closely monitored amid concerns that further rain could worsen flooding and trigger additional landslides in the mountainous district.

Kurung Kumey is among the worst-affected districts in the latest spell of monsoon rainfall that has caused floods, landslides and widespread disruption to road connectivity across several parts of Arunachal Pradesh.
