News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday laid the foundation stones, inaugurated and dedicated to the nation railway and allied infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 35,000 crore in Vadodara, Gujarat, giving a major boost to rail connectivity, freight movement and logistics infrastructure. A key highlight of the programme was the dedication of three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), covering 326 route kilometres and developed at a cost of more than Rs 20,700 crore. The sections are expected to strengthen links between industrial centres and ports, facilitate faster movement of export-import cargo and improve logistics efficiency.

Modi also laid the foundation stones for the Vadodara-Ratlam third and fourth rail lines, Miyagam Karjan-Choranda-Malsar gauge conversion and Vishwamitri-Dabhoi doubling projects. Together, the three projects cover 329 km and are aimed at increasing rail capacity and improving operational efficiency. The Prime Minister dedicated the Jobat-Tanda Road new rail line, which will improve connectivity for remote and tribal areas of Alirajpur and integrate them more closely with the national rail network. He also flagged off a new passenger train service between Tanda Road and Vadodara’s Pratapnagar.
Four freight train services were flagged off from New Sanand, New Makarpura, New Umbergaon and New Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal, further strengthening connections between industrial, logistics and port centres. Modi described the over 2,800-km Dedicated Freight Corridor as the “lifeline of a rapidly developing India”. The corridor is designed to enable faster and more efficient freight movement while reducing logistics costs and improving supply-chain efficiency. The projects are expected to support economic growth, improve passenger mobility and strengthen India’s logistics network as part of the broader vision of a modern and future-ready railway system.
