New Delhi : India’s preparations for the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan have received a fresh twist, with senior batter and former captain Rohit Sharma yet to report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for his mandatory fitness assessment. His participation in the three-match series remains subject to clearance from the board’s medical team. According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had asked both Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Hardik Pandya to undergo fitness tests before joining the ODI squad. While Hardik has already reported to the CoE, Rohit is yet to do so, raising uncertainty over his availability for the series against Afghanistan.

Despite the pending fitness clearance, Rohit is expected to begin training at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on June 8 and 9. Reports indicate that the veteran opener has already requested training slots at the venue as he steps up preparations ahead of the ODI assignment. Rohit’s fitness has been under scrutiny since he dealt with injury concerns during IPL 2026. The selectors included him in India’s ODI squad for the Afghanistan series, but made it clear that his participation would depend on successfully clearing the fitness protocols laid down by the BCCI.
India are scheduled to host Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series beginning later this month. With Virat Kohli also reportedly facing fitness concerns, the team management will be hoping for positive updates on Rohit’s condition before the squad assembles for the series. The coming days are expected to provide greater clarity on the experienced batter’s availability as India look to field a full-strength squad against Afghanistan.
