Churachandpur, August 15: Security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the Sehken-Khuga Dam area of Manipur’s Churachandpur district on August 14 amid intensified security measures ahead of the 80th Independence Day celebrations.
A patrolling team of the 1st Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) recovered the weapons and other items during an area patrol.
The recovered cache included a locally made single-barrel firearm, a locally made SMC carbine and a locally made .32 pistol.
Security personnel also recovered six live rounds of .32 ammunition, two Baofeng handheld radio sets and an improvised mortar, locally known as a Pumpi.
The recovery came as security arrangements were stepped up across the district ahead of Independence Day.
Details regarding the ownership of the recovered weapons and whether any arrests had been made were not immediately available.
