Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Sunday extended greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Bhanu Jayanti and paid homage to Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya on his 213th birth anniversary, recognising the pioneering poet’s enduring contribution to Nepali literature and culture.
In his message, the Chief Minister hailed Bhanubhakta Acharya as the father of modern Nepali literature, saying his timeless works continue to inspire generations while reinforcing the cultural and linguistic identity of Nepali-speaking communities across the world.
Tamang said Bhanu Jayanti represents more than the commemoration of a literary figure, describing it as a celebration of the enduring role of language, literature and culture in fostering a united and progressive society. He also acknowledged the contributions of writers, scholars and poets in preserving cultural traditions, encouraging creativity and passing on values and knowledge to future generations.
Recalling the legacy of Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya, the Chief Minister called upon the people of Sikkim to renew their commitment to safeguarding and promoting the Nepali language and its rich literary heritage.
He urged the younger generation to remain connected to their linguistic and cultural roots while making meaningful contributions to the continued development of Nepali literature.
Extending his best wishes to the people on Bhanu Jayanti, Tamang expressed hope that the occasion would promote peace, wisdom and a stronger appreciation of the shared cultural heritage that unites the people of the region.
