Delhi: Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continued his dream run in IPL 2026 by scripting history during Rajasthan Royals’ final league-stage match on Sunday. The young opener became the teenager with the highest number of runs ever scored in a T20 tournament, surpassing the previous record held by Devdutt Padikkal. Vaibhav crossed the landmark with 581 runs in 14 matches, moving ahead of Padikkal’s tally of 580 runs achieved during the 2019-20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The teenage batter from Samastipur in Bihar has emerged as Rajasthan Royals’ leading run-scorer this season and one of the biggest attractions of the tournament. His fearless batting style and consistent performances have made him one of the standout players of IPL 2026 despite his young age.

Vaibhav is also dominating the six-hitting charts this season with 53 maximums to his name so far. The left-handed batter now stands close to another historic milestone. If he manages to hit seven more sixes before the season ends, he will surpass the all-time IPL record for most sixes in a single edition, currently held by legendary West Indies batter Chris Gayle. Gayle had smashed 59 sixes for Royal Challengers Bengaluru during the 2012 season, a record that has stood for over a decade. Earlier in the tournament, Vaibhav had already become the first Indian cricketer to hit 50 or more sixes in a T20 competition. He reached the landmark during Rajasthan Royals’ previous match against Lucknow Super Giants.
The youngster is now on the verge of yet another milestone. If he scores at least 21 runs in the ongoing match, he will become the first teenager in world cricket to score 600 runs in a single T20 tournament. Vaibhav’s remarkable rise has not only strengthened Rajasthan Royals’ campaign but has also marked the arrival of one of Indian cricket’s most exciting young talents.
