AGARTALA: The Tripura State Secretariat of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has opposed the alleged reduction in ration rice allocation, calling the move by the BJP-led state government “inhuman” and demanding its immediate withdrawal.
In a statement on Sunday, the CPI(M) alleged that the government had reduced the ration rice entitlement amid rising prices of essential commodities.
The party claimed that the existing provision of 5 kg of rice per person had been restricted to a maximum of four members per family, meaning households would receive no more than 20 kg irrespective of their family size.
The CPI(M) said the alleged reduction would add to the financial burden on families, particularly as prices of essential commodities had risen over the past three months.
It claimed rice prices had increased by around Rs 1,000–1,500 per quintal, while masur dal and sugar had risen by more than Rs 1,000 per quintal. Mustard oil had become costlier by around Rs 25–30 per litre, while spice prices had also increased, it alleged.
The party criticised the Central and state governments for allegedly failing to control the prices of essential commodities and called for collective protests to press for action.
It demanded the immediate withdrawal of the alleged ration rice reduction and effective measures to control rising prices.
