In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Banderdewa Police arrested two individuals and seized 23.45 grams of suspected heroin during a naka checking operation conducted near Hanuman Mandir in Banderdewa.
The action followed specific intelligence inputs indicating that narcotic substances were allegedly being transported from Assam into Arunachal Pradesh. Acting on the information, police intercepted a Yamaha Ray-Z scooter and carried out a search in compliance with the provisions of the NDPS Act in the presence of independent witnesses.
The operation was led by Inspector Kipa Hamak under the supervision of Naharlagun SDPO Rishi Longdo.
During the search, police recovered 18 vials containing suspected heroin and Rs 610 in cash from the possession of Nabam Subash alias Lulu, a resident of Ganga Market in Itanagar, and Raj Pordung of Khenewa in Seppa.
The seized substance was sealed and documented in accordance with legal procedures.
Following the operation, Banderdewa Police registered Case No. 35/2026 under Sections 21(b), 27 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Further investigation into the case is in progress.
ICR Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Dr Nyelam Nega reaffirmed the commitment of Arunachal Pradesh Police to intensifying efforts against drug trafficking and emphasised the importance of community cooperation in tackling the narcotics menace.
