Two Jharkhand Men Arrested with Fake Currency Worth Rs 7.37 Lakh at Kamakhya Railway Station

Two men from Jharkhand were arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) after counterfeit Indian currency notes with a face value of Rs 7.37 lakh were recovered from their possession during a late-night operation at Kamakhya Railway Junction in Guwahati.

The operation was carried out by personnel of the Kamakhya GRP after receiving specific intelligence inputs. Acting on the information, the police team conducted a search at Platform No. 1 of the railway station, where the two suspects were intercepted and taken into custody.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Dayal Das (59) and Golab Sheikh (51), both residents of Pakur district in Jharkhand. During the search, officers recovered counterfeit currency notes with a total face value of Rs 7.37 lakh.

According to the preliminary investigation, the accused allegedly obtained the fake currency from an unidentified person in the Rajgarh area of Guwahati. Police said the duo had reportedly exchanged Rs 2 lakh in genuine currency to procure the counterfeit notes.

Investigators suspect the accused intended to transport the fake currency to Jharkhand for circulation. Police are currently questioning both men to determine the origin of the counterfeit notes and identify other individuals connected to the alleged racket.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to trace the interstate network believed to be involved in the counterfeit currency operation.
