Nagaon, May 27: A constable of the 9th Assam Police Battalion died on May 27 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Guwahati after sustaining critical injuries in a road accident in Assam’s Nagaon district.
The deceased has been identified as Divya Jyoti Kalita (28), who was serving with the 9th Assam Police Battalion in Barhampur. He was a resident of Nampani village in Puranigudam.
According to police sources, Kalita suffered serious injuries in a road accident that took place at Chakrigao a few days ago. Following the incident, he had been receiving medical treatment for his injuries.
Officials said he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
His death has cast a pall of grief at the battalion headquarters as well as in his native village. Residents and colleagues remembered him as a friendly and well-regarded young police personnel.
