Guwahati, Feb 25: Akhil Gogoi sparked fresh political debate after appearing in a Facebook Live session with controversial social media personality Victor Das on Monday night amid uncertainty over seat-sharing talks.
During the broadcast, which gained traction online, both demanded justice for late singer Zubeen Garg and criticised the delay in constructing a Samadhi Kshetra in his memory. They declared that they no longer wished to depend on the state government for the memorial.
Gogoi’s appearance alongside Das came at a politically sensitive time. Although he had described his party’s alliance discussions with the Congress as positive and said tensions had eased, the live session indicated that he was also engaging with emotionally charged public issues beyond formal negotiations.
The tone of the interaction drew attention, as both were seen laughing during parts of the session. Das used casual language and slang throughout the broadcast.
Responding to reporters’ queries about the video, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said he had not heard Das’s name. He added that Gogoi met many people and that he did not keep track of his activities. Sarma remarked that if he began monitoring everyone Gogoi met, he would have no time to serve the nation, and said Gogoi’s meetings were not his concern.
