Pramod Boro Files Rajya Sabha Nomination from Assam Alongside BJP Candidates

Guwahati, March 5: In a key political development ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections in Assam, Pramod Boro, president of the United People’s Party Liberal, filed his nomination on March 5 along with two candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The nominations were submitted on the final day for filing papers for the Rajya Sabha polls scheduled to be held on March 16. The BJP has nominated Jogen Mohan and Terash Gowalla as its candidates for two of the three Rajya Sabha seats from the state. The third seat has been allocated to the BJP’s ally, the UPPL.

Pramod Boro, who earlier served as the Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council, submitted his nomination papers in the presence of senior party leaders and supporters. Several UPPL members accompanied him during the filing process and expressed confidence about his prospects in the election.

The Rajya Sabha elections in Assam are being conducted to fill three seats that will fall vacant as the terms of the current members come to an end. According to the election schedule, the scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on March 6, while March 9 has been set as the last date for withdrawal of candidature. Polling, if necessary, will be held on March 16.
