Storm Wreaks Havoc in Dibrugarh Villages, Residents Seek Relief

Dibrugarh: Hundreds of residents in the Lezai Kalakhowa area of Dibrugarh district have been left distressed after a severe storm swept through the region, damaging homes, crops and livestock. According to local residents, the storm struck the area around noon, causing widespread destruction across several villages, with Dighalia and Panigaon reported to be among the worst affected. Villagers said strong winds and heavy rain uprooted trees, blew away roofs and flattened several houses within minutes. “At around 12 pm, a heavy storm hit and within minutes our homes and crops were ruined. We even lost livestock in the devastation,” said a resident whose house was completely destroyed.

Many affected families have urged the government to provide immediate assistance and compensation. A daily wage earner from the area said the loss has left him uncertain about rebuilding his home. “Every year we face similar situations in Lezai Kalakhowa. My house is destroyed and I don’t know how I will rebuild it,” he said. Following the incident, local officials visited the affected villages to assess the extent of the damage and begin documentation of losses for relief distribution.
