Bajali: An Assam Police personnel allegedly attempted suicide using his service weapon inside a district jail campus in Baksa district, triggering concern over safety protocols and personnel welfare. The injured has been identified as Gunjit Baishya, a resident of Baghmara in Bajali district and a member of the 24th IR Battalion. He reportedly sustained a gunshot injury to his chest and was immediately shifted to Guwahati for advanced medical treatment.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred within the jail premises while the personnel was on duty. The development has raised questions regarding security arrangements as well as the mental well-being of security personnel deployed in sensitive locations. Family members, speaking to the media, said there were no known personal disputes or issues that could have prompted such an extreme step. They expressed shock and stated they are unaware of any reason behind the incident.
Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the alleged suicide attempt. Officials said further details will emerge after a thorough inquiry. The condition of the injured personnel is yet to be officially confirmed.
