Guwahati, April 6: Two alleged robbers were beaten to death by a mob in Assam’s Rupahihat following a late-night robbery attempt in the No. 1 Kathpara area, police said.
According to reports, a group of 10–12 armed miscreants stormed the residence of Mujjamil Haque Choudhury around 2 AM. The attackers, allegedly carrying sharp weapons, tied up the homeowner and threatened his six-year-old daughter by placing a weapon on her neck.
The group looted cash and gold ornaments worth over Rs 4 lakh before attempting to flee. However, locals were alerted by cries for help and rushed to the spot, prompting a chase.
Residents managed to apprehend four of the suspects. In the ensuing assault by the mob, two of the accused were beaten to death. One of the deceased has been identified as Safiullah, while the identity of the second individual is yet to be established.
The two injured suspects have been identified as Imanul Haque and Rakib Uddin.
During the incident, the homeowner sustained serious facial injuries.
Senior police officials, including the district Superintendent of Police, reached the scene and have initiated an investigation into the incident.
