Guwahati, April 8: A 30-year-old man lost his life after being struck by a passenger train in the Bahadurtari area of Dhubri on Wednesday morning (April 8), police said.
The deceased, identified as Khokon Haldar, was a resident of Bahadurtari. The incident occurred around 7:20 AM along the Binpatti stretch, where railway tracks run in close proximity to the Dhubri–Guwahati highway.
According to eyewitness accounts, the Kamakhya Express had just departed from Dhubri railway station and was picking up speed when it hit the victim, resulting in his death on the spot. The exact circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear, including whether Haldar was attempting to cross the tracks at the time.
Local residents rushed to the scene soon after the accident, while a team from Assam Police reached the spot to secure the area and manage the crowd.
Police have initiated a preliminary inquiry into the incident. Railway authorities have repeatedly warned against walking along the Binpatti stretch, citing the narrow distance between the highway and the railway line as a significant safety hazard for pedestrians.
