Guwahati, April 27: A woman has died under suspicious circumstances in Guwahati, with police detaining her husband on allegations of poisoning, officials said on Monday.
The deceased, identified as Shruti Rai, had married Rupak Sen on January 28 in the Bishnupur area near Noonmati. According to sources, the couple had entered into a love marriage following Sen’s earlier divorce.
The case took a serious turn after allegations surfaced that Sen had administered poison to his wife, leading to her death. Acting on the suspicion, Assam Police personnel from Odalbakra detained him for questioning.
Sen has denied the allegations, stating that Rai had been unwell for several days prior to her death. He told investigators that she was admitted to Marwari Maternity Hospital on Sunday, where she died while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit.
Police said a detailed investigation is underway to establish the exact cause of death. Officials added that forensic examination and post-mortem findings will be critical in determining whether any foul play was involved.
