Mayong, April 29: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, police in Assam’s Mayong area apprehended two individuals and seized 18 containers of suspected narcotic substances during a targeted operation conducted on April 28, officials said.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team from Mayong Police launched a search operation along the Ashigarh connecting road in Lecheribori. During the raid, an Alto car bearing registration number AS-21-J-3176 was intercepted, with the two accused allegedly travelling in the vehicle.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Jitesh Sanyasi (24), a resident of Beradiya village, and Mahamadul Islam (32) from Lecheribori village, both under the Mayong area. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 18 containers suspected to contain narcotic substances, which were subsequently seized.
Police officials confirmed that both accused have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to determine the origin and intended destination of the seized contraband. Authorities are also examining possible links to broader drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
